A reflective Exericse
just for you

Thanks for listening to us on Live Happy’s podcast!
Here’s that reflective exercise we promised.

We all have things we want to carry with us, and things we want to leave behind.

Get yourself primed for growth-oriented reflection by situating yourself in a comfortable environment without distractions. We recommend putting all electronic devices away or on silent as you reflect. You’ll need two pieces of paper and a pen or pencil.

Start with the first piece of paper, and free-write your responses to these questions:

  • Think of a moment when you were at your best. What made that moment possible?

  • What is one behavior or habit that has served you well this year, and that you want to bring with you into 2020?

After you finish writing, take a few deep breaths and really let that reflection sink in.

Then, take your second piece of paper, and free-write your answer to this question: What do you want to let go of in the new year?

After you finish writing your answer to this question, fold up the first piece of paper and keep it with you in a place you’ll remember and refer to it—perhaps in your wallet or next to your bathroom mirror. Then, we invite you to ceremoniously discard the second piece of paper, such as by tossing it into a fire. Incorporating ritual into this act of “leaving behind” can help us remember our intentions and commitments.
